TROTTING CONFERENCE 1 Wellington, Las.t Night. A deputation from the OantCTbury Owners' and Breeders' Association, waited upon the conference to urge the claims of the clock system of starting. They found .the system they advocated very satisfactory, and hoped the yards system would not be imposed upon Canterbury. Mr. Selig moved the following remit from the New Zealand TYotting Association: In all handicap events the handi- . tapper shall make a distance allowance and not atime allowance. An amendment that the matter be deferred for one year vfas carried. A motion that the Government be urged to reinstate the double totalisator wa» carried. A proposal that inquiries and appeals should be open to the press was deferred for, twelve months.
The following additions to thft rules were adopted- That the Trotting Association be composed of tiine members, ttvm of whom shall be elected for the South Island and two for the North Island to the year 1010, and thereafter that applications for registration of new clubs be accompanied by a £lO 10s fee for registration.
Officers elected were; President, Mr. John Rowe; vice-president, Mr. E. H, Roberts; executive, Messrs Olivier, Mackay, and Hodges.
