A spirited game was played at the recreation i grounds yesterday afternoon between the above teams. Star undoubtedly bad the advantage in | the matter of weight, and their forwards pushed ; the College boys about somewhat, and the | game was chiefly among the front-rankers. At times, however, the Technical College half-back snapped up tho ball pretty smartly and endeavored to give his backs a chance, and when the game did open a little the College boys showed some combination. Tho Stars, however, were fast, and did not allow their opponents much licence., Early in tho play Star scored from a penalty kick taken by Broughton, and shortly afterwards the Bame player registered a splendid goal from a mark well out in the field. A Uttle before half-time the College rallied veil, and were encouraged by a fine goal Kicked by Ruru from a penalty. The second half was keener even than the first, both teams attacking with persistence. Courtenay, for the Star, notched two tries, neither of which was converted, but later Roberts scored almost behind the posts, and Broughton succeeded in adding the major points. The College team now infused a great deal of life Into the play and pressed their opponents very hard. Bailey eventually shooting over the line, after a shoTt tun, near the corner. Tho attempt at goal failed. When "no-side" was sounded the score stood: Star, 17; Technical College, 6. Mr. h. \ Humphries was referee. i STRATFORD, 18; TUKAPA, 0. Second juniors representing the above clubs i met at West own Park yesterday, Mr. Hooker refereeing. The visitors were much too good for : the home fifteen, and completed toe game with 18 points in their favor. In the first spell the score was: Stratford, 3; Tukapa, 0. The second ; half was decidedly in favor of Stratford, the ; and blacks being continuously on the at- ' tack. Henry, Anderson and Forest were the trygetters. The winners played good football, field;ing and tackling being very fine. Tukapa gave a poor exhibition, and were fortunate "in not I having larger figures totalled against them. I TUKAPA <3) v. INGLEWOOD (3). Inglewood and Tukapa juniors met at Inglewood, yestorday, and a hard game resulted in a draw. The reds (Inglewood) had a vory strong team in the field, the inclusion of "Wally" Whitaker and Gilbert (er Canterbury rep 9.) strengthening tho team considerably. The Tulcapa team was somewhat disorganised, and sadly missed the services of Hurley and Cameron. Inglewood, playing against tty sun, attacked hard from the kick-off, their backs handling the ball splendidly. For aome time Inglewood continued to attack, but safe tackling and kicking by the blue backs kept them out. Owing to the heavy forwards against them, Tukapa did their utmost to keep the game loose, and after several hard efforts Cocker rafted over, Oliver failing to goal. There was no other score in the first spell. Tukapa attacked from the commencement of the second spell, and for some time kept Inglewood defending, but the red forwards came away in grand style and rushed the ball over the line, Hucker being awarded & try. For the rest of the game play was mostly on the Inglewood side of half way. Prlar made a magnificent effort to drop a goal from the side-line, but the ball fell under the bar. A. Oliver (for Tukapa) and Sheahan (for Inglewood) were both held up on the line after making fine Offoxta Inglewood have a fine team in the making. Their play yesterday was as good as any seen this season. Burkhardt, in the forwards, showed representative form. Whitaker, at fivo-eighths. was very safe. Pilar, full-back for Tukapa! captivated the spectators by his great game, and many are wondering why he was not the representative full-back. Rawson and H. Oliver played well, but Oliver could not find the posts, having at least eight attempts at goal. Cocker, as usual, led the forwards well. Hawkes, who was playing a fine game, was Injured in the first spell, and his place was taken by a substitute. HIQH SCHOOL v.
