SHORTAGE OF HOUSES.

DEPUTATION TO GOVERNMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, July 10. At the Latyor deputation to Ministers, Mrs. Beck, a member of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, gave a harrowing account of .the conditions under which Rome good but poor people live in Wellington. She urged the need for Government action to provide homes for the people. Sir James Allen said he did not think it right to look to ,the Government for everything. To his mind, it was purely the duty of municipal authorities to find money for housing their own people. Mr. P. Fraser, M.P., interjected: "The Government will have to provide the money." Sir James Allen: "How do we provide money? By taxing .the people. The municipalities should provide the money in the same way." He agreed that it was proper that people should have decent housing.
