(From Our Own Correspondent.)' Walters. July t. There was n largo attendance at the Theatre Royal on Sunday on the cocaslon of the peace thanksgiving service. The arrangements were made by the Mayor and resident clergymen, and they, with Mrs. Marlow and the choir, are to be congratulated on the success of the atirangements and the singing. The Mayor opened the proceedings by reading the King's proclamation, being followed by the hymn for peace, the Lord's Prayer, sad then Mr. Perkins read the lesson (Exodus XV, 1-18). The Rev. XV B. Lauronce gave an address, and explained that be had enlisted aa a private, and not as a chaplain. Be spoke for about fifteen .minutes on the blessings of peace and the uncertainty which had existed for some time a* to the outcome of the war, and the glorious part New Zealandero had taken In bringing peace about. After prayers by Mr. Perkins, and the I singing of the Te Deum, an address was given by the Rev. 0. E. Gavin, In which he eulogised the press for the good work done The service ended with the singing of Kipling's "Recessional."

A meeting of the Pence Celebration Committee was held last night, there being thirteen members present. A letter from Mrs. tund, secretary gf the Bed Cross Committee, In which she stated that the Rod Groat fundi which had been given to the committee could not properly be applied to anything but Rod Cross work, was read. It was decided to hold the matter in abeyance until the president of the society was present It was arranged that the proceedings should start at 10 30 a.m. with a procession, organised by Mr. T. Buchanan, which Is to proceed to a central point, where children will be grouped, and addresses will be given and songs by the children. A dinner for returned soldiers and their wives Is to be glfen and invitations will be sent out to all soldiers in the dlatrlct. Prizes will be awarded for the beat decorated yohlcle, motor car, motor waggon, tradesman's display, motor cycle and tableau. The sum of £ls has been set aside for this. The Are brigade la in charge of the flreworka and bontlre. The fireworks are to be eet off from the old cattle wharf gear the bridge. The children are to be given lunch, and Mrs. Marlow and Mrs. Joll were appointed to .get help to look after the children The decision of the GoYerunwnt to hold Monday as the children's day has rather spoilt (hate plans, and a meeting of the Peace Celebrations Committee U to be held to consider the altered conditions.
