A TRAIN ACCIDENT.
MAY HAVE BEEN SERIOUS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, July 9. The up train from Palmeraton North, which arrived 'here at 0.15 p.m. this evening, had rather a narrow escape from what might have turned out to be a serious accidjut. On reaching Ormondville, the train pulled into the side line to allow of the down mail to pass. The train was an exceedingly one, the services of two engines being required to draw it. After the mail bad passed the up-train left the | Ormondville station, but as the carriages were traversing the points, which were apparently split, qne t>r two of them left the track. The speed of tho train was not great, but quite sufficient to cause one carriage t4 toppic over. This would have caused the remaining carriages to fall also tin'! it not been for the timely snappir.c; of the couplings. These carriages contained many women and children The occupants of the overturned car, four in all, managed to get clear in time. Beyond a severe shaking no harm befell them. The line was soon cleared and the train was then cut in two, and the passengers brought on to Napier, where they arrived well up to time.
