I • WAR-TIME DUTIES. By Telegraph.—Fmss Assn.—Copyright. Received July 9, 7.30 p.m. > London, July 8. There was considerable opposition in the Hou*o of Commons to the proposal in the Finance Bill to continue until August, 192Q, the war-time duties imposed in 1915. Mr. Chamberlain agreed to limit the reimposition till May, 1920, when he would explain the fiscal policy There is no intention now of raising a controversy, as war-time conditions were still prevailing.
The Labor demand for the abolition of the tea duty as bearing over-heavilr on the poorer classes was negatived.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
