PRESERVATION OF SCENERY.
FLORA AND FAUNA. By Telegraph—Press Association, Wellington, Jnly 8. % deputation from the New Zealand Institute waited on the Minister in Charge of Scenery Prewvation and asked that the Institute ahould be con* suited by the Government on matters pertaining to the preservation of Bcenery and native flora and fauna. The need for steps fo he taken for the preservation of sites of historical interest was mentioned. It was stated that wtock on the Native nortion of Eapiti Island was spoiling the Island as a sanctuary, and it was asked that the whole Island should he acquired, or the stock should be enclosed by fences. The Minister said he would welcome any recommendation the Institute might make with regard to the preservation of scenery, The questions with regard to Kapiti Wand were being dealt with. As to the preservation of historical sites, he would confer with his officer* and the Kiaister of Internal Affairs.
