STRATFORD.

The Egrnont Parlltmeutary Debating Union held a very successful debute en Tuesday evening. The attendance was not so large as usual, but the subject was well handled by the various speakers, and the addresses wjjre greatly enjoyed. The subject for discussion was whether domains and public resources should be voted in local bodies. Mr. Lawrence, in a well thought out address, led off for the affirmative, and was supported by the majority of the speakers. The body whifh controls the Stratford places came in for some strong criticism, which was answered by 'Mr. Morison, a member of the Board, who was present. On a vote being taken only three votes were given in favor of the present control. At a meeting of the congregation of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Tuesday evening, the resignation of the Rev. J. 'D. Madill was accepted with regret. A motion of sympathy with Mrs. Dyson in the loss of her husband was passed by the Stratford School Committee last evening. In his monthly report, the headmaster stated that Mr. Dyson was an earnest teacher and a loyal worker.

Mr. A. D. Stanley, who has accepted a position as secretary to the Auckland A. and P. Association, left for Auckland on Tuesday. On Saturday next, Mr. T. Lamason is holding; a sale by auction, on the site of the recent fire, of a quantity of house blocks, firewood, bricks, roofi«ij iron, etc., in lots.to. suit purchaser; POSTED DIRECT FOR 2a 6d.
