The latest increase, from 10 to 28 per cent., is the heaviest that has yet tnken place, although there have been several increases from time to time since the outbreak of war. Locally-made boots and shoes liaVe increased greatly in popularity during the last few years, and the style now manufactured locally are in many instances quite equal to hijrh-gnufe Imported goods. As local manufacturers are entirely dependent on imported leather, however, it is inevitable that New Zea-land-made boots and shoes lmut increase in price as well as the imported finished article.
