ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

A PAINTER'S END. Wellington, Last Night. The body of William Smith, head of the firm of Smith and Smith, painters and decorators, was found floating in the harbor to-day. Deceased has been missing since Saturday week, and it is supposed that he fell off the wharf when going to catch the steamer for Day's Bay, where he has been living for about six months,

MOTOR ACCIDENTS. An accident ocurred on the Mountain Road on Monday evening which might have proved a very serious ona, two Eltham residents, Miss E. Wallace (a member of Mr. G. D. Gow's staff) and Mr. L. Moir, being knocked down by a motor car (the Argus reports). It appears' that, in company with Mr. Huthnance, Miss Wallace and Mr. Moir were walking up the Mountain Road, and two motor cars coming from opposite directions attempted to pass when just abreast cf the pedestrians. One of tht cars, swerving widely, knocked Miss Wallace and Mr. Moir down. The car, which was travelling slowly, immediately stopped, and Miss Wallace and Mr. Moir were picked up and taken home. Miss Wallace sustained a number of bruises and suffered somewhat from shock, while Mr. Moir hurt his knee and sustained some facial abrasions. Mr. Huthnance escaped unhurt.

MOTOR ACCIDENTS. Late yesterday afternoon, while passing through Tariki in a motor car, Messrs A. Avery and Glendinninij had a narrow escape from a serious casualty, It appears that earlier in the day the car had received a nasty jar, and when opposite the Tariki store the car was overturned, Mr. A. Avery being pinned underneath. Fortunately, he was speedily extricated and found to be uninjured, but Mr. Glendinning had a dislocated elbow, and was attended to by Dr. Nutting, of Inglewood. The wheels of the car were so buckled that it had to be left at Tariki, the passengers coming on to New Plymouth.
