LABOR PARTY.
ANNUAL CONFERENCE. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the opening conference of the New Zealand Labor Party the national president (the Hon. Paul) said Labor now had a great opportunity, which might not occur again in the lifetime ol the delegates. Labor's solution of the present difficulties, including that concerning coal, was ,the only practical solution. The conference's decisions would form the basiß of the party's: platform at the general election, and ha asked delegates to consider the remits in that light. The executive reported a year of great progress. The membership had reached the highest point in the history of the party, and now numbered over 21,500 financial members. There was every reason for viewing the future with confidence. There were indications that the mass oi the people were at last alive to the immediate necessity for a change in Government, and they were showing a decided preference for Labor. Wellington, Last Night. The conference of the New Zealand Labor Party devoted most of the day to the discussion of matters of detail and in.ternal organisation. The Hon. Paul was re-elected president. The following amendment to the constitution was adopted: "The executive shall consist of a president, vice-presi-dent, secretary-treasurer, and committee of twelve. The president, vice-president, and secretary-treasurer shall be elected by a plebiscite of members of the party. The committee of twelve shall be representative of every pa?t of the Dominion, and shall be elected by local Labor representation committees, which shall be grouped numerically and geographically."
