UNITY AND WORK. | ONLY WAY OUT OF DARKNESS. HINDENBURG'S VIEWS ON PEACE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.— Copyrieht. Received July 1, 5.5 p.m. Berlin, June 20. The Government has issued a proclamation to the German people stating that (he first requirement is the fulfilment of the treaty, the second being work, and .the third faithfulness to duty. The only way out of the darkness of this treaty is through the preservation of the empire and nation by unity and work. Marshal von Hindenburg, replying to a request by the Minister of. Defencj for a statement of his attitude in view of the Entente's rejection of the German reservation, said that if hostilities were resumed the Germans would be able to conquer the province of Posen and maintain the frontiers intact; but could hardly reckon upon success in the west. A favorable issue was, therefore, very doubtful, but as a soidier he would prefer an honorable fall to an ignominious peace.—Reuter, • ■ ■ ■ -
