DEVIATION OF RAILWAYS.' By Telegraph.—Press Aasodiatlori. Wellington, Last Ki«M. The conference of representative! of local bodies and chambers of commerce adopted the following resolutions i-r That the question of doing away with the RimuUka railway incline and the finding of a better route to toe Wairarapa district from Wellington is a most pressing matter, mi that the Government be urged to proceed with the work. That the conference call upon the, Government to proceed at once with the deviation of the PaekakariJci line and send a deputation to urge . upon the, Premier and Minister of Public Works the necessity, for making an early start, with the work. j
That, in the event of a fa?orable reply being received from .the Government on the question of a deviation of the JRjmutaka and Paekakariki lines, the Government be requested to set tip a board consisting of engineering and commercial experts to determine the best route* and to ensure that their proposals be carried into effect.
That the time has arrived when the Government should construct the main arterial roads of the Dominion with/a view to the formation of permanent highways. That all local bodies be urged to co-operate in the work of putting main roads in such permanent condition in respect to surface and width a* to carry with safety the rapidly increasing number of motor-driven vehiclesA remit was adopts urging the ettab. lishment of an Bast Coast fafiwar,
