A London cable states that the Prime Minister, Mr. Lloyd George, has been ordered to rest for six weeks.

The Kev. R. J. Stanton, latterly chaplain to the forces in Trentham and Watherston, has been appointed vicar of lnglewood.

Lieut.-Colonel Weston, who has been on a visit to Hamilton, returned to New Plymouth/by the mail train on Saturday night.

Mr P. K. Whitcombe, dentist, who was operated on a week ago, is making rapid progress towards recovery and hopes to be about again soon.

Mrs. A. J. Orchard, of Korito, has received advice that her only son, Rifleman A. J. M. Orchard, is returning by the Kigoma, due at Wellington about July

Mr. J. H. Gunson, Mayor of Auckland, is about to take a holiday for health reasons. He leaves by the next San t'rancisco boat from Wellington, and expects to return about November.

Mr. Dick Brett, manager of the Seaward Downs Butter and Cheese Factory, is on a short visit to his sister, Mrs. Charlie Street. Mr. Brett was very successful at Dunedin and Palmerston gliows with cheese.

The death o|curred at Invercargill yesterday of Mr. C. H. D. Canavan, local Superintendent of Telegraphs, at the ago of 57. Deceased, previous to coming to Invercargill, about three years ago, was stationed at Wellington, New Plymouth, and Blenheim. He was an enthusiast in photography and motors.—Press Assn. Mr A. J. Barr, of New Plymouth, was appointed secretary of the Stratford A. and P. Association at a meeting of the executive on Saturday. About two years ago Mr. Barr was employed on Mr. Newton King's Stratford staff.

Mr. C. A. Tabuteau, formerly manager of the Bank of New South Wales at Masterton, Hawera, Gisborne, and Ashburton, and for four years accountant of 'the Wellington branch, died last night from heart failure at the age of 71. He leaves no family. The death occurred at Petone on Friday of Mr. J. G. Castle, who was for many years employed on the Gear Company's staff. The late Mr. Cas.tle took an active part in local matters, and was, tip till the time of his death, chairman of the Petone West School Committee. He los.t a son at the war. Another is in the Anglican ministry. Mr. H. E. Carey, formerly Government secretary in Darwin, has been appointed Director of the Northern Territory. Mr. Carey was for some years with Dr. Gilruth when the latter was at the head of the New Zealand Veterinary Department, and went with him to Darwin. Mr. Carey has recently been in charge of Vestey and Sons' interests in the Northern Territory, and is a man of marked capacity and tireless energy.

At the annual meeting of the Stratford A. and P. Association ,the president, Mr. J. W. Boon, presented Mr. A. D. Stanley (who has recently resigned the secretaryship of the association to take a similar position in Auckland), on behalf of the members, with a wristlet watch. In making the presentation, the president said, that Mr. Stanley had been very energetic and had proved a good secretary. He had worked very hard in Retting new members, and at a meeting of the executive that day no le»9 than 24 new members, all of whom had been limited up by Mr. .Stanley, had been elected. Mr. Stanley, in thanking the association for their gift, referred to the happy relations that had existed between himself and members. He hoped his successor would be treated as well as Ititrroif.
