FOOTBALL.

OPPOSITION TO LEAGUE GAUL. BOTHER OVER GROUNDS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Jurte 27. The Reserves Committee of the City Council reported in favor of granting the use of the Basin Reserve to the League footballers for three days with the right to charge admission. Strong opposition was shown to the League on the ground that it encouraged professionalism, also that it did not encourage young playei'3 for whom the game as played under League rules was too exacting.

Others pointed out that the League in England had not hurt, either Rugby or Association football, but, on the casting vote of the Mayor the League was refused the use of the ground.

TUKAPA v. STRATFORD HIGH SCHOOL. The following will represent Tukapa Juniors against Stratford High School at Stratford:— Quickfall, Hall, Murphy, Ambrose, Le Pine (2), Sole, Goodacre, McLean, Bodmin, Horsenell, Doil, Redwood, Plyger, McHardie. Emergency: Beggs. STAR v. LEPPERTON. The following will represent Star against Lepperton Second Juniors at the Recreation Ground this afternoon:— Backs: Pratt, E. J. Hamllng, F. Hurley, K. Jury, J. Belcher, A. Amorej forwards: J. Bowler, G. Reynolds, A. Boon, A, Haldane, R. Henry, G. Way, E. Bedford, E. Palwasser, P. Shepherd. Emergencies: C. Clare, N. Brockonshlre, and C. Bourke.

THURSDAY'S PLAY. The Stratford first juniors had an easy win against Toko on Thursday, totalling 68 points to nil. The Stratford v. Eltbam first junior contest proved a very willing go, the margin being 6 points to nil in favor of Stratford. Forrest and Austin were the scorers.

THE ASSOCIATION GAME. . Mr. Elliott presided at a meeting held last evening. There was a good attendance of players, who freely discussed the prospects of the game this season. It was decided to run a team, and efforts are' to be made to arrange matches with other centres. A letter was received from the Eltham Club desiring a match, and this will be acceded to when a date can be arranged. As most of the old members have returned from the front members are looking forward to a.good competition from clubs in Taranaki. Another meeting will be held next Friday, and in the meanthne any plaver desiring to join can do so through Mr. Elliott:
