PERSONAL.
Mr. W. G- O'Callaghan, a highly respected resident of New Plymouth, is seriously ill. A London cable states ,that Dr. C. Addison, president of the Local Government Board, has been appointed Minister of Health.
Captain Olphert, assistant-marine superintendent of the New Zealand Shipping Company, is in New Plymouth at present, having arrived with tne liner Whakatane.
SecondiLieut- Horrobin, who was for some time on the staff of the New Plymouth branch ol the Bank of Australasia* is returning to New Zealand by the Kigpma, due to arrive in Wellington on July 15. Mr. J. R- Sicely, who had resided in the Mai'ton district for many years, died recently at'the age of 71. He had served many terms as a member of the Borough Council. He had also been Mayor of Martin. The late Mr. Sicely one time resided at Patea.
Capt. (Dr) W. T. Simmons, of Patea, who has been on active service for the past three years, returned to New Zealand by the Waimana, and arrived in Patea by the mail ;train last night. Mr. and Mrs.7 A. Smith, of Oniata, have received work that their son, Corporal C. H. Smith, is returning by the Tahiti, due about July 2. Col. Weston, Officer Commanding the Taranaki squadron of o; the Legion ;of Frontiersmen), Fraser, Jones, (commanding the Egnjont troop), and W. D. Thpmson (secretary of the Awakino troop), left for Hamilton yesterday morning to attend a Dominion conference of the Legion. New Plymouth troop will be represented by Frontiersman T. Luxton.
