PIONEERS DEFEAT POVERTY] BAY, Gisborne, June 21. Tha Pioneers concluded their New Zealand tour with a match against Poverty Bay. The first spell was fairly even, but the second was noticeable for frequent brilliant passing rushes. The game resulted in a win for the Pioneers by 24 to 12. For the visitors tries were scored by Gardiner, Wilkinson, Te Urupu, Auhana, and Keke, three being converted l>y Jacobs, who also kidked a penalty. Miller (2), Slniler, and ©every scored tries for Poverty Bay.

CLIFTON (28) v. RAHOTU (0). The football match between Rahotu and Clifton seniors, played at Waitara on Saturday, ended in a win for Clifton by 28 points to nil. The points were obtained as follows: Six tries, fjom which three goals were kicked, and a potted goal. The visitors were outclassed in almost all points of the game, though they had rather hard luck in not scoring on twp occasions, and Clifton also went very near to scoring on several occasions. For the winners the- most of the forwards were P. Jones, A. Lash, W. Soffe, while the wing forward, V. Tate, played a very good game. J. Taylor was very noticeable in the loose rushes. In the backs Stewart, Goodwin, and Kupe were, perhaps, the pick, though they were well supported. S. George as full bask was very safe and his line kicking very good. The visitors played a good and hard losing game.

N.P. HIGH SCHOOL FORFEIT. The Clifton second junior match, which was to have been played before the senior match, was forfeited by New Plymouth High School. CLIFTON T v. STAR 6. The match btween Clifton and Star was played on the racecourse on Saturday afternoon, and, after a strenuous game, Clifton won with a margin of one point. Two tries wer escored for Star, by Way and Bowler, and a try and a dropkick from the field made up the score for Clifton.

HIGH SCHOOL A 12 v. TUKAPA 3. High School A met Tukapa in Western Park on Saturday afternoon, and, in Bpite of the weather, a good game was played, fairly open eo far as the school backs were concerned. For the school tries were secorded by Harrison (2), E. Hair, and Christie, none of them being converted- McHardy scored a try for Tukapa, and the score when time was called was School' 12, Tukapa 3. Mr. Hooker was referee.

WELLINGTON COMPETITION. At Wellington on Saturday the University seniors effected a surprise by defeating Petone, the final scores being 11—9 In favor of the former. Poneke played a drawn game with Selwyn, there being no score. A second game that ended with honors even was that between Oriental and Wellington, each Bide kicking a penalty goal. TRIAL MATCH.
