THE LABOR CONFERENCE. Wellington, June 23. Considerable significance is attached to the fact that the Wellington Labor Representation Committee has chosen three leaders of the moderate division of labor as the Wellington representatives for the Labor Party Conference. The fourth delegate is Mr Fraser, M.P. Wellington, Last Night. The New Zealand Federation of Labor Conference is to open at Wellington on July 3. A number of interesting remits are to be considered.

A remit from the Auckland Carpenters' Union proposes the formation of a Workmen's and Soldiers' Council to deal with the problem of repatriation. The union is of opinion that the Returned Soldiers' Association -would welcome the idea, thus making it possible to form such councils.

The Auckland Ccpchworkers' Union sends a remit as follows: "That in the event of the Labor Party being returned to power all war loans be repudiated." Many amendments to the Shops and Offices Act are urged by the Wellington Grocers' Assistants' Union. They desire a forty-four hour week. Other l remits deal with compulsory Voting and referendum, specifically in land nationalisation and Labor's attitude in the matter of defence.

Of the four Wellington delegates to the conference three have been selected from what is said to be the moderate section (Messrs J. Reed, R. McKeen, and P. Cornwall). The other delegate selected was Mr. Fraser, M.P. Under the amendment adopted at the last conference, the selection of delegates is limited to Labor representation committees. It is said that there were two tickets in the field in Wellington Centre, one nominated by what is regarded as the extreme section and the other by the moderates. The new method of selection is not generally approved, and remits aimed at the reversion to the old method of selecting candidates have been forwarded by the local Social Democrat Party, and the Wellington North Labor Party.
