Adelaide, June 23. Many thousands are rendered idle as the result of the shipping strike. Factories are closing and many firms are reducing their staffs.

Sydney, June 23. Mr Ryan, Premier of Queensland, who is now in Sydney, is taking steps to reopen the Mount Morgan mine, in order to arrest the widespread distress resulting from its closing.
