GOVERNMENT RESIGNS. SIGNATURE OP PEACE ASSURED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Copenhagen, June 20. Weimar messages state that the Government resigned after a midnight Cabinet meeting at which Herr Scheidemann, Count Rantzau, and Herr Dernberg definitely threatened resignation if the Assembly decided to sign the peace. It is expected Herr Erzberger will form a new Government including Bernstorff, Richthofen and Muller, in addition to the Majority Socialists Noske and David. The Independent* refuse to join owing to N'oske's inclusion.
It is anticipated that at to-morrow's meeting of the Assembly 90 per cent of the Majority Socialists, 75 per cent of the Centre Party, 30 per cent of the Democrats, and all the Independents will favor signing the peace. It is generally believed that signature is now assured.
