Last Tuesday several boys arranged a dance at the East End pavilion for the University students. Although the weather did not entice the "old stagers," the younger ones could .not resist the pleasure of dancing. The floor, as everyone admits, is quite the hest dancing floor of our town, and delightful music was supplied by Miss Brewer and Mr R. George. The chaperones were Mesdames Peach and Bullard. Those present included: Miss R. Whitton, black velvet relieved with cremelace; Miss K. Campbell, saxe blue crepe-de-chine; Miss M. Wheatley, navy taffetas and creme net bodice; Miss K. McCleland, pale blue crepe-de-chine; Miss M Tiplady, green net trimmed with gold lace; Miss D. Jordan, blue crepe-de-chine, creme ninon over dress; Miss M. Peach, vieux rose crepe-de-chine; Miss N. Le Cren, apricot crepe-de-chine relieved with turquoise; "Miss C. Ledger (Christchurch), white net; Miss M. Moore, lemon crepe-de-chine with saxe blue bands; Miss M. Corkill, saxe blue crepe-de-chine and creme net; Miss NBullard, vieux rose crepe-de-chine relieved with gold; Miss D. Watkins, emerald net; Miss D. Mrs J. H. Hammond gave an enjoyable little dance at her residence last Tuesday night for a number of young people, it being one of the nicest dances of the season.
ORANGE BLOSSOMS. MORRIS—QUIN. An exceedingly pretty wedding took place on Wednesday at St. Joseph's Church, Eltham, when Evelyn Margaret Quin, daughter of M. and Mrs. J. T. Qniii, of the "Highlands," was married to Mr. R. J. Morris, of Ojpunake. The bride's dress was shell pink palette, the bodice ibeing composed of georgette, lined with ninon and silver lace, the skirt also being draped with ninon and georgette and caught up with silver trimmings. The train was fastened with tassels. A beautiful pale pink tulle bridal veil was worn, which had been handsomely worked in silver by the Sisters of the local convent. A shower bouquet of pale pink chrysanthemums, friesias, and maidenhair fern was also carried by the bride. The bride was attended by two bridesmaids, Mass Annie (Cis) Quin (chief) and Miss Muriel Quin. Mr. J. Hickey, of Gpunake, attended the bridegroom as best man, and Mr. iFrank Quin as Groomsman. The bride was given away by her father. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a set of Petrel fox furs, and to the bridesmaids gold Nellie Stewart bangles. The bride's travelling dress was a brown tailored costume with hat to match. After the ceremony the guests, who numbered close on eighty, assembled at the "Highlands," where the wedding breakfast was partaken of and the usual toasts honored.
The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Arkwright find Rev. Father Doolajrhty (Opunakpi. Mr. W. Markhara and Mrs. O'Hagan officiated at the organ, f.ater in the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Morris left by motor car for 'Wanganni, en route for the north. The presents were numerous and handsome and ineluded many cheques.—Argus.
ARMSTRONG —OLIVER A very pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Stephen's Church, Waverley, on Wednesday, June 4, by the Bev. W. J. KIRKWOOD—FENNELL. A quiet but pretty wedding was solemnised at the Catholic Church, Opurinke, on Wednesday, June 11 last, when Mary, eldest daughter of Mr. anil Mrs. Fennell, of Opunake, was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Mr. William Kirkwood, of Pun«arelm. The Rev, Father Doolaghty was the officiating tumisi«r. The bride looked charming being dressed in a cream crepe de chine dress trimmed with bridal trimming and pear] heads, thjj&t-.'un being trimmed with orange blossfbm and true lovers' knots and lined, with shell pink silk. She wore the usual wreath and veil, and carried a shower bouquet. The bride wag attended by her sister Nora, who was dressed in Jap. silk with pale blue trimmings and also carried a shower bouquet. Mr. M. Femiell, brother of the bride, was best man.
After the ceremony the guests were entertained at the residence of the bride's parents, where a sumptuous wedding breakfast had been prepared, .aror breakfast the usual toasts were honored The bride was presented by the Vridegroom with a gold bangle and the bridesmaid with a gold chain. The bride's present to the bridegroom was a gold albert and locket. The bride also received a number of valuable and useful presents, amongst which were a number of cheques. In the afternoon the happy couple left for their honeymoon. The bride's travelling dress was a brown tailor-made costume, with hat to match lined with pink.—Times.
