PARTY STRIFE.
I ' "A CLUMSY JOKE" Palmerston, North, Juno 19. •Referring to a statement whlahappsared m the Dominion this morning suggesting that Stf Joseph Ward' was hurrying back for the purpose of stirring ■ up party strife and beginning the election campaign, the Hon. W. D/S. MwDonaid, who is attending the Manawatu Show, said the best he could think of * PuT as t , l ! at , ifc was a ver 7 clumsy joke. ' Either that or the Wellington paper was attempting to do the very thing it was accusing Sir Joseph Wanl of doing. No one had been more punctilious than the leader of the Liberal Party in > the observance of the letter and «pirit ■ of the contract between the parties and ' •t would be absolutely atrocious to sen- s ously accuse him of Buch conduct as tfat i Dominion suggested. , '' "Of course," Mr. Mac Donald added, jestingly, "the editor of this paper may <;< i be in closer communication with Sir 'i Joseph Ward than the rest of uj, and * may have obtained from him this gnat' piece of information for distribution Lr,? ug^out the country. Likely, isn't it? Further than this the Minuter '* decluied to discuss the matter.
