LICENSING COMMITTEE.
.ADJOURNED ANNUAL MEETING.. The adjourned meeting of the Tara-. imki Licensing Committee was held yes-. terday, there being present Messrs J. W.. Poynton, S.M. (chairman), F. P. Corkill. W. Ambury, and D. H. McDonald. The business before the committee was. the question of licenses for the Terminus Hotel, New Plymouth, and the Inglewood Hotel. TERMINUS HOTEL. Mr. H. R. Billing appeared for Mrs; Rebecca Tabor, owner, and Mr. Ronald H. Quiiliam for Mr..S.Sßidgley,.licensee of the Terminus.. A further report was put in> fey SWbInspector Hutton, who stated that he had made another inspection of the house and found great improvements made. The whole place was-, being painted and repaired. The walls upstairs, however, needed papering, and the kitchen and scullery neededi'to-'be painted. Mr.. Billing stated, that Mrs;. Tabor,, who was to take, over the place from ithe present lessee at the expiration of ■ his term on June 30, had undertaken to 'refurnish the whole house. Mr. Ridgley had advertised a sale of all' the present furnishings of the house, to take place at the end of the term of his lease. When the furnishings were removed Mrs. .Tabor intended having all the upstairs (rooms re-ipapered and the kitchen and! {scullery painted. The Jiotel would then be mad ; i a first-class house, so far as the stare, of the present building admitted. He gave an assurance that the requisite amount of accommodation (six rooms) would be available during the progress-of the alterations and refurnishing.
The application for the license was Igraivted; the committee intimating again "that unless a new building was erected, or in course of erection,, by the next annual meeting the would probably not be renewed.
MGLEWOOD HGTET,. In' regard to tiro luglewood Hotel a further report was submitted, which the chairman said was a bad one. Smart Bros, had stated that unless something was paid on acount of repairs already made they refused to proceed with any more work. There was the usual squabble between owner and lessee, and if such a course was taken it was believed the upstairs part of the building would remain unattended to. "That was what usually happened," remarked the chairman.
Mr. Poynton then said the committee had power to still further adjourn the annual meeting, and quoted several judgments in support of that contention. The committee decided to adjourn the application and the annual meeting until the date of the next quarterly meeting of the committee in September, when the repairs to the house must be completed or a licence would not be granted.
