I observe (says a correspondent of ths Auckland Star) that Mr. Rowley, the secretary of the Labor Department, stated before the Parliamentary Industries Co&mittee that concrete houses cost about 10 per cent, more to erect than wooden houses- I wish to contradict tha above statement. I do not know who the "experts" are that are quoted at wli the "experts" are that are quoted or what they are experts at, but their knowledge of concrete houses is poor. I am not an expert, but I assert that concrete houses would be 20 per cent, cheaper than wooden bouses, and, furthermore, the Government could build concrete houses 30 to 50 per cent, cheaper than wooden houses. I think it is only , fair to those connected with concrete building, also the puWic in general, that the true facts should "be placed before them.
