curious CHARGE OF THEFT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. At the Police Court, Charles James Arnold was charged with the theft of £156, the property of Albert Hodge, a bookmaker. The case for the prosecution was that accused asked Hodge for change for a £lO note in a hotel, and that the latter gave three £SO notes, one £lO note, and six singles. Complainant admitted that when he started to count the notes he referred to £SO notes, but still included them in the lot he gave accused. He saw accused next day, but the latter denied having the money. Accused was committed for trial, bail being allowed in self £lO, and one security of (£IOO.

Timaru, Last Night.

A meeting of the ffimaru post and telegraph officers passed resolutions strongly disapproving of the new classification, and urging an early conference with a view to adjusting the anomalies caused by the inconsistent and unfair assessment of merit, and the value of positions, and expressing indignation at the withholding of payment of war bonus till Sir Joseph Ward's return, and promising support to the executive of any constitutional means to secure early payment.
