Indications point to the fact that the Republican opposition is growing in the Senate.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. SENATE'S OPPOSITION TO LEAGUE. New York, June 13. The Washington correspondent of the New York Times says that the Senate Foreign Relations Committee reported i favorably on Senator Knox's resolution, 'placing on record that the Senate is against accepting unamended the League of Nations Covenant with the Peace Treaty. The committee, however, struck out a section of the resolution declaring that it would be the policy of the United States to co-operate when European peace was threatened. The question of the adoption of the resolution by the Senate will be debated at an early date.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Association.

DEPARTURE OF JAPANESE AMBASSADOR.

I Baron Ishii left Washington for Tokio, avowedly for consultation with the Jarose Government, but the fact is tii;*; has tendered his resignation as Ambassador because he disagrees with the officials at Washington over the Japan-ese-Chinese relations. The Japanese Government has not yet accepted his resignation. RAID ON BOLSHEVIKS. STeW York, June 13. The authorities raided the office of Martens, the unrecognised Bolshevist I Ambassador to the United States. Martens and members of his staff were cross-examined the the legislative committee which is investigating the Bolshevik propaganda in the United States.
