Wo regret to learn that the wife of Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P.. is seriously
Judge Palmer, of the Native Land Court, is seriously ill of encephalitis. Be has been unconscious for a week.
Mr. Bert Sampson and Sergt. Andrew Bishop, of Bell Block, left on Monday morning on a visit to" 1 the South IslandMrs. A. E. Tunbridge has received advice that her son, Private P. A. Tunbridge, is returning by the Ruahine, due about June 30.
A Hawera message reports the death of Mrs. O'Shea, aged 85, a very old resident of Hawera. She was mother of Archbishop O'Shea and Mrs. J. E. O'Shea, farmer, Ohahgai. Mr. J. Davidson, of Tariki, has received advice that his son, Sapper J. W. Davidson, N.Z.E., is returning on the Prinzessin, due to arrive in Wellington about 25.
Midshipman P. S. Harrison, second son of the late Dr. Harrison, of Eltham, is returning to New Zealand :.i the steamer Prinzessin on June 25, his elder brother, J. V. Harrison, having returned to Wellington a few weeks ago. :: At yesterday's, meeting of the Taranaki Hospital Board the resignations of Sister A. Patchell, Miss E- E- Lambert (probationer) and Miss Holdsworth (district nurse, Opunake) were received and accepted with regret. Another pioneer settler, Mr David Hughey, a well-known resident in the Manawatu district, early on Tuesday last, in his ninety-first year, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs Robert John Port, Waiktuiae. Mr Hughey arrived in Wellington when twelve years of age in the ship Martha Ridgway, in November, 1840. Mr. J. B. Richards, chairman of the Cardiff Dairy Company, was seized with a fainting fit in the street at Palmerston North whilst proceeding to the Dairy Conference, which he was unable to attend. In the afternoon the matter was mentioned by the president, and a resolution was passed by the conference expressing sympathy with Mr. Richards and hoping that he would soon. ha restored to health.
Mr. Herbert Williams, who has been appointed to the position . of Chief Accountant,' New Zealand Government Railways, joined the service on February 3, 1884, and was appointed stationmaster at Mount Eden. Since that date he has had charge of various stations in the Auckland district. On January 17, 1905, he was appointed audit inspector, and continued to occupy that position until May, 1912, when he was appointed stationmaster at Gisborne and had charge of the district. Eighteen months later he was transferred to Napier, and occupied the position of stationmaster there until October,' 1914, when he was transferred to the Chief Accountant's Office to fill the position of chief clerk. In April, 1918, he was appointed assist-ant-chief accountant, and on the promotion of Mr. Jatnes Macdonald to the position of Assistant General Manager, Mr. Williams was elected to fill the,
