NATIONAL DAIRY ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. DIRECT DISTRIBUTION AT HOME. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. The annual meeting of the National Dairy Association showed that the industry had shared the general prosperity of the Dominion. The profit and loss account showed a credit of £23,874, an increase of £2806 on the year's working.
A long discussion took place on a motion that the executive be asked to report to a special meeting, to be held within six months, upon the best method for providing a more direct distribution through the agency of the association's London branch. The mover (Mr. McFarlane) said it was felt that the National Dairy Association could do the work as well as the Imperial Supplies Department. He thought directly the Imperial Government ceased to control supplies they should have an organisation in England. They should also have a bank in this country under their own control to finance business at this end. The motion was carried, but further consideration was postponed till the next annual meeting to enable delegates to be sent to England to confer with the London representative.
A notion was carried protesting against the action of the Railway Department in disclaiming liability for dairy produce lost in transit.
It was decided to urge the Government to establish a laboratory for scientific research in connection with the dairy industry, and to establish schools of instruction for young men entering the industry. It was decided to wait upon Mr. Massey and Sir Joseph Ward on their return to protest against the equalisation scheme, and demand that it be made a charge upon the Consolidated Fund.
