FOOD SITUATION DESPERATE. DEATH AND DISEASE RAMPANT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received June 14, 0.5 p.m. Paris, June 9. There are many deaths in the prison at Riga. The food situation is desperate, 220,000 people being in need, whilst thousands have died of starvation and disease, spotted fever, smallpox, influenza and pneumonia being rampant. The New York Sun's Paris correspondent states that reliable reports which are reaching French official circles say that Admiral Kolchak is willing to concede the Allies' demands as a preliminary to recognition of the Omsk Government. Admiral Kolchak will recognise the independence of Finland and Poland. He proposes an alliance with Mannerheim for the dual occupation of Petrograd.— Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.
