Mr. J. Corrigall, who underwent an operation at Dunedin on Tuesday, is progressing favorably. Mrs. W. J. Smith has received advice that her son, L. fi. Smith ("Hippo") is returning on the Prinzessen, due about the 25th inst.
A London cable reports the death of Mr. George Grossmith, actor and author He was the first to popularise the revue in London, and wrote ri'.any songs and musical plays. He was identified with the Gaiety Theatre. He was only 45 years of age. Colonel D. S. Wylie, C.M.G., New Zealand Medical Corps, has assumed the duties of officer commanding Trcntham Military Hospital. Lleut.-Colonel E. E. Porritt, New Zealand Medical Corps, having relinquished the temporary command of the hospital; has been retained for spocial duty. Mr- Harold Beauchamp, chairman of directors of the, Bank of New Zealand, mentioned at the annual meeting of the bank that he proposed to take a short rest from work, and in a few days he might be on his way to England'. Ho was sure the affairs of the bank would be well looked after in his absence. Mr. Upton, who would fill his place while he was away, had acted in that capacity before.
