THE PUKEMIRO DISPUTE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The Herald's Huntly correspondent telegraphs that a mass meeting of miners was held at Pukemiro to-day, when the company's proposals were rejected. The opinion was expressed that in view of the projected working of the State mine in the vicinity the Government should take over and work the Pukemiro mine There are indications that further negotiations are useless, and that the dispute will go into the hands of the Federation of Labor. The Conciliation Commissioner stated to-day that in order to remove, if possible, the deadlock that has arisen over the Manawatu flaxmill imployees over the choice of a milita'y defaulter as delegate to the conference with the employers, he had invited the employers' association and tho employees' union to appoint three delegates each to meet hint at Palmerston on Tuesday to discuss the dispute. The Commissioner reports that at the Palmerston North sittings a complete agreement has been readied between the Painters' Union and the employers in the Manawatu district Wages have been fixed at Is 7Jd per hour, with a bonus of 2id per hour. The overtime rate has been Taised to time and a half, and slightly increased pay has been granted apprentices. DISPUTE WITH STEWARDS. Received June 14, 12.5 a.m. London, June 13. In connection with the dispute with the stewards on North Atlantic ships, overtime will be paid them for attendance on officers in Canadian and American ports pending the decision of the Shipping Controller.
