BOWLING.

WEST END CLUB. The annual meeting of the West End Club was held in the Club's pavilion last night, Mr. J. D. Sole presiding over a fair attendance of members. Tho ninth annual report congratulated members on the results of last season, both from a financial and playing point of view. Tho receipts amounted to £IBO 12s sd, the expenditure £l5O 2s 9d, and after providing for outstanding liabilities there was a credit of £l4 2s yd, and as there was additional expenditure in completing the new green, such a satisfactory result was largely due to the help from members generally. They had to thank Messrs C. M. Gray for donating four gold medals for rink competitions, F. Hod aon two gold medals for pairs, and F. S. Plumtree trophy for junior championship, Winter play was now in progress, the number of members being 20, and as the subscription had been fixed at a low figure it was hoped the number would be largely increased. Club competitions would tie held, and it was also hoped to play inter-club matches. From a playing standpoint the club had been very successful, winning the Taranaki tournament champion shield, the Gilmour Cup in the Saturday competition, and in other competitions also held their own. The championship singles were won by T. Billing (senior) and B. Bullot (junior), both being very popular and well deserved. Reference was made to the loss of several members, and pleasure expressed at welcoming back Messrs Glendinning, Humphries, and Standish, who had returned from the seat of war. Tho report paid a high tribute to the work of the caretaker (Mr. Sole), the green warden (Mr. F. J. Hill), and the secretary (Mr. L. H. Honeyileld, who in addition took great interest in the flowers and shrubs. Tho thanks of the club were alos due to their lady friends for their yeoman service in entertaining visitors and members, and to the press. The president, in alluding to the bal-ance-sheet, said that wliilo summer subscriptions had decreased by about £2O, it was gratifying to note that, despite much increased work the expenditure had only increased £7. They had not taken the green, which had cost £540, into consideration as an asset, because their lease was only from year to year. He urged all to endeavor to increase the membership, as the club could accommodate six times tho cresent tmembers. Their only liability was £9O debentures. He then moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet.

This was seconded by Mr. Hodson and carried.

Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr. J. D. Sole (re-elected); vicenresidenta, Messrs Y. IT. Bcal and J. Lobb; selector, Mr. F. J. Hill; secretary and treasurer, Mr. L, H. Honeyfield (reelected); committee, Messrs F, J. Hill, T. Billing. S. Hurktone, W. Oliver, C. M. Gray, J. IT. Hamilton, and H. Tounsley; auditor, Mr. Geo. Cornev (re-elected); green warden, Mr. F. ,T. Hill (re-elected); delegates to Taranaki Centre, Messrs J. D. Sole and F. J. Hill (re-elected); match committee, Messrs F. ,T. Hill, V. H. Beal, and J. D. Sole (re-elected). The subscription was fixed at £2 12s, reducible to £2 2s if paid l>v a fixed date. It was resolved to hold the same club competitions as last year. It was resolved to instal a telephone at the green. The committee were also recommended to redeem not less than ten debentures during the ensuing year. The secretary was voted an honorarium of £3 3s, a tribute being paid to his splendid services in the interests of the club. The secretary, in returning thanks for the recognition, handed the honorarium to the club as a donation.

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the ladies, and a suggestion made that members might consider the question of showing their appreciation by entertaining the ladies at a social. Votes of thanks were also accorded the members who looked after tho shrubs, etc., and to the press and the president.
