WAITARA.
(■From Our Own Correspondent.) June 12. The monthly meeting was held last evening, when there were present his Worship the Mayor, Crs. Jones, Ogle, Beekbessinger, Ciribbon, Rennie, and Blair. Messrs Ogle, Beekbessinger, Griblioii* Rennie, and Blair made the usua.' declaration and took their seats. Mr. T. Buchanan was absent through illness and was granted leave of absence. Mr. A. W. Ogle was appointed deputy-mayoi. A letter from Mr. G. Huse asking for <i reduction in the sanitation fee was received, and it was decided that no reduction could be made. In the case of Mr. H- Joll it was decided that no sanitation fee would be charged while the property is empty. A letter from Moa Road Board askin« Waitara to join in a scheme to get power from Manganui river was held over until alter a proposed meeting with New Plymouth Borough Council. In reference to the circular received from New Plymouth Borough Council re the Taranaki County Council's proposed tax on all vehicles using county roads it was decided to strongly oppose it. In answer to a letter from the Minister of Internal Affairs, asking the borough to appoint three members of the Waitara Fire Board, Cr. Ogle said that as the borough council had to find 4a per cent, of the money required it was only right that the council should appoint members with the interest of the council at heart, and Crs. Ogle, Blair <ind Rennie were appointed. ' A letter from Mr. Marlow, asking that an encyclopaedia be procured for the library, was referred to the library committee.
A letter from Mr. S. Wyllie asking that the light be put on to his house was referred to the Lighting Committee. Cr. Beekbessinger, with the Mayor Cr. Jones, and the town clerk, was appointed to sign cheques, and the Mavor and Cr. I.eckbessinger were appointed to sign the rate-book.
The following committees were appointed—Finance Committee, the whole council; Domain Board, the whole council; Library Committee, the Mayor and Crs. Jones and Rennie; Electric Light >■ wnimttee, Crs. Ogle, Blair and Beckbessiuger; Water and Works Committee, Irs bnbhon, Buchanan, and Rennie; Cemetery Committee, the Mavor and Cr Jones; Reserves and Seaside Committee, Crs Ogle, Gribbon, and Buchanan. The Mayor spoke on the necessity to secure the loan for repairs to tho bridge, ur. Ogle said he thought the first thing to do was to have a meeting of the Finance Committee to go thoroughlv into the financial position before anything else was done, and it was decided to hold the matter of repairs to the ibriiWe over until after the first meeting of the Finance Committee, to be held next Wednesday. His Worship the Mayor moved and Cr. Ogle seconded, that rates as per notice of motion be raised and levied. This juts carried. The rates are the same as last year, GENERAL. Houses are still selling freely in the town, and it is years since such a number of houses changed hands in bo short a time. i The football social last night waR well patronised, and those present spent i) very enjoyable evening.
