ENGINEER'S REPORT. The following engineer's report was submitted to Tuesday's meeting of the Egmoat Count? Council: Oeo Riding (Northern) .—One day's patching has been done oh the Piillki Koad, und about 4 days on the Xlthani Road, where it was absolutely necessary. A gang ot men have been engaged on the cutting and embankment at the now Punehu bridge, which work Is almost complete. A fair amount ot gravel found In the cutting lias been put on the new surface, and shingle Is being obtained from the rlrw to put on the newly-tipped material to some crushed raet»l, whilst the crushed metal on the site hail been used to metal through, the cutting on the hard bottom. When the crushing plant reaches the top of the Fatlkl Koad, more uoulder stone will have to be crushed to topdress the entire length of the deviated portion of the road.

Oeo Hiding (Southern).—The staff in this riding has been engaged on contract work all the month. Contracts Nos. 334 and SI.J wer« worked together from two crushing sites, and yielded Bsg cubic yards of crushed metal and 88 yards of 'screenings, which were' put down on 23 chains of the unmetalled portion of the Pattkl Koad at the railway reserve, and 15 chains opposite W. Conaglen's frontage, at an average or just over IT yards per chain, and a cost for crushing, spreading, scarifying and rolling in of 3s lftd per cubic yard, and a total cost of £l2 9s Id per chain. No. 2 plant was then moved to contract No. 'i'lZ on the Skeet lioad, whore from the first crushing site 338 cubic yards of crushed metal and 70 yards of screenings wcie obtained and put down on the Skeet Koad from ths Oeo Road to pas,! the branch ot the Kaupotonul factory—a distance of 25 chains, and at a rate of about 13}£ yards to the chain. I would recommend that the council carefully consider the question of Including Skeet Koad In the loan permanent roadlng, and ut the fame time straighten the road west of Nopera Koad, cutting out two very dangerous bends. 1 understand that the land will not cost anything to put the road to the originally Intended straight line. Opua Kldiug.—Patching, blinding and watertabling have been done at several places ou the Main Mouth and JSltham Koads, with a decreased star!, and slight repairs have been done to the Taungatara bridge on the Elthain Koad. The foreman constantly complains of the excessive speed at which the New Plymouth coach passes along the Main South Koad iu« this riding One 12-inch and' one 2-foot concrete pipe culverts have been put in across the lhala Koad In place of the old wooden culverts, which had broken In. Complaints havi- been received from C. Humphries, Jr., that the ditch in the Namu Koad which relieves his drains requires cleaning out.

Opunake Hiding.—Water-tabling and patching nave been done on the Main South itoad l'ipemaking has been dune at the old yard Part of an old wooden culvert belonging to the Opunake. Dairy Company, which runs under the Main South itoad at the factorv. recently collapsed.
