The death is reported from Perth of Sir Henry Briggs, president of the Legislative Council.

A Dunedin telegram states that the Union Company advises that tha statement that Mr. Bond has been appointed manager is incorrect, and points out that Mr. Irvine, manager of the branch there, has not retiredSir William Eraser, Minister for Publie Works, will visit the Egmont County early in July for the purpose of opening the new concrete bridge over the Punehu river. During his visit various matters will be placed before him by deputations. ,

The Admiralty announces the following appointments:—Rear-Admiral Duff, Commander-in-Chief of the China station; Captain Tothill, Commander-in-Chief of the East Indies Station; Captain Chatfield, Fourth Sea Lord. At St. Michael's Church, Christchurch, last week Corporal J. E. Avery, of New Plymouth, was married to Miss T. Downey, of Wellington. The bridegroom was attended by Lieut. R. Mclsaac, M.C., both being Main Body men lately returned to the Dominion.

On Tuesday last the marriage took place at the Presbyterian Church, Inglewood, of Miss Irena E. Cossey, daughter of Mr. J. Cossey, Tariki, and Mr. William Hooker, of Carterton, late of the 22nd Reinforcements. A reception Was afterwards held at the residence of the bride's father, there being over 100 guests present. , Mr. and Mrs. Evetts, Gaine Street, have received information that their son. Lance-corporal P. J. Evetts, who went away with the 21st Reinforcements, will arrive by the troopship Waimana, due at Auckland about the 21st inst. Miss Rena Te Au, the well known singer, was married on Sunday at Opunake to Mr. Joseph Beaton, of Tuatapiri, Southland. The ceremony took place at the residence of the Rev. H. N. Papakakura, who officiated. Mr. J. Martin acted as groomsman and Miss Martin as bridesmaid.

Private advice has been received in Nov/ Plymouth from Lieut.-Col. Frank K. Tnrirbiill, D.5.0.. M.C., who was married on April 3 to Miss Winifred Sydney Bayly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bayly, that he and his wife were to leave for Now Zealand by the transport Prinzessin on May 16. The vessel is expected to arrive at Wellington about July 3.

A London cable states that the Grand Cross of St. Michael has been conferred upon Sir Hubert Gough, General Chauvil, and Sir William Robertson, and the Air Force Cross upon Commander Read and officers of the NC4, the American aeroplane that reached England from America. The Grand Cross of St. Michael has aJso been bestowed on LieutenantGenerals Cavan and Mjlne.
