FUR COATS AND MOTOR CARS. IS THE DUTY SUFFICIENT* (From Our Own Correspondent) Wellington, June 4. Fur coats and motor cars were uniting the matters mentioned in evidence before the Industries Committee to-day wlien the Comptroller of Customs (Mr W. D. Mo-it'romery) was giving evidence. "What is the rate of duty on the fur coats that are sellins at prices up to 200 guineas in this town?" asked the chairman of the Committee (Mr C. A. Wilkinson, J'l.P.). Mr Montgomery said that the duty on fur coats was: 20 per cent ad valorem on British foods and 37J per cent ad valorem on foreign goods.
