HUNTING.
NORTH TARANAKI HOUNDS. The North Taranaki hounds met at the homestead of Mr. and Mrs. F. Sampson, Sentry Hill, on Thursday afternoon. The weather was very favorable, and there was a good attendance of followers: and spectators. The country had been well spared, and there was some excellent jumping, notwithstanding the fact that there were one or two spills during the afternoon. All the country from' the homestead to the main road was traversed, but hares were very scare, one being driven from cover near the Maori pah and leading the houndy a short chase before going into prohibited country, when the pack had to hi called off. Later in the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Sampson, in their usual hospitable manner, entertained the members of the hunt and their friends to afternoon tea, which was very keenly appreciated. Mr. A. H. Halcombe, master, in a few appropriate remarks, expressed the thanks of the hunt to Mr. and Mrs;. Sampson, and its appreciation for the support and kindness they had always extended.
