The pilot at Patea (Captain Tlnney) has reported to the Patea Harbor Board in connection with the recent mishap to the steamer Kapuui, as follows: On the 30th May, nt 10.15 p.m., when the Kapunl was leaving, she kept too much over towards the guide pier, aad dragged through the Band, and then took a sheer over towards the eastern wall, which she struck stem on. The vessel then went astern, and went out. All along abreast of the guide pier there is between 14ft. and 10ft. of water in the channel at h.w.s. tides. Shortly after noon on Wednesday (says the Wanganui Chronicle) tho s.s. Kapunl was towed to the Putiki Slip hy the Togo. Tho vessel was placed on the ways, and the lift was undertaken. Once more the plant proved equal to the, test, and the vessel was raised to the top or tho slipway, where the necessary repairs will be undertaken. Inspection showed that the bow was considerably crushed below the water-line at Its contact with the rocks, and a portion of the outer sheeting will need replacing. The work will, however, give no difficulty, and the vessel should be soon running again.
