An effort is being made to resuscitate the Hawera Gun Club, which has been dormant since the war. An accident—whihe might have been very much more serious than was the case but for the promptitude of the driver of one of the vehicles concerned -—occurred at the corner of Devon and Liardet Streets yesterday morning. The New PlymwitU Borough Council's motor lorry, driven by Mr. P. E. Sogers, was approaching the corner of Liardet Street from Devon Street East, when Mr. W. H. Pillar, an elderly gentleman, who was coming round the same corner out of Liardet Street, appeared to have misjudged his time in endeavoring to pastf the other vehicle, and a collision oc-» curred. Both were traveling slowly at* the tune, and but for Hie way in which* the motor lorry was handled more seri-. ous consequences must have resulted. When the motor was stopped one of the; wheels was crushing the hand of the unfortunate cyclist. Mr. Pillar was taken to the hospital, where his injuries were attended to, but it was understood that he was able to proceed to his home afterwards.
