CHEESE PRICES. THE CANADIAN POSITION. Definite information regarding the disposal of the Canadian cheese output for the present teason is conveyed in the following cablegram received by Mesers Joseph Nathan and Co. from their correspondents in Montreal, dated May 19:— "English Government not purchasing Canadian cheese output. British retail price Is 6d per pound. Market here 154n to 166s per cwt. There hag been much controversy in dairying circles in this country as to whether or not the Canadians were making a % better arrangement than the New Zealanders for the marketing of cheese this year.. New Zealand's exportable surplus of cheese has been sold to tlie Imperial Government at lOfd per lb, f.o.b.j equivalent to 100s 4d per cwt. The Canadian producers appear to be getting a better price, but it has to be noted that the New Zealand producers have been given a secure market, and relieved from trouble regarding shipment, since the Imperial Government accepts the eheese in the New Zealand stores.—Dominion.
SUPPLY OF BUTTER-BOXES. Auckland, June 2. The problem of securing an adequate supply of butter-boxes was discussed by the North Auckland Dairy Conference to-day. It was resolved to express to the Government keen disappointment that, notwithstanding endorsement by the Efficiency Board of the conference's contention for the taking of strong action, a lapse of twelve months had not unproved the position, and the position of dairy companies was worse. It was also decided to authorise the formation of a company to provide packages writable for produce, should such a scheme prove practicable.
