FITZROY BOWLING CLUB.
SOCIAL AND DANCE. A very successful social and dance was held in the Good Templar Hall last night by the Fitzroy Bowling and Croo.uet Club, in honor of the win of Mr. P. Jury's rink in the Citizens' Match at the recent bowling tournament. The music for the dancing was, 1 provided by Miss George (piano) and Mr. West (flute). Messrs W. Beadle and A. Roberts acted ay M.'s C. Progressive euchre was played by the non-dancers. During an interval musical items were contributed by Mrs. Northern, Misses Bennett and Abbott, and Messrs F. W. J. McLeod and B. Bellringer. The accompaniments were played by Misses E, Bennett and George. The president of the club, Mr. S. Smith, made writable reference to the merit of the win of the rink, in whose honor the social was held. Last year, when Abbott's rink won the tournament, the entertainment had been confined to the men, but this year they had broken new ground and included the ladies of the Croquet Club also. Incidentally, he remarked that he thought every bowling club should have its croquet club for the ladies. Referring to the success of Fitzroy rinks ;a the tournaments, both in New Plymouth and other centres, he said that, with the exception or the Auckland tournament, they had reached uie semi-flnals in every case. The win of Jury's rink was a particularly rood one, as mos.t of them were young bowlers, and to defeat the Gordon-Christie combination from Wanganui was something to be proud of. The winning rink was Oxeftham, Buckle, S. Rundle, and Jury (s). In a reference to the play during the past season, Mr. Smith said a great deal of credit for the enjoyment of the season was due to the splendid form in which the green had been kept, and he thought the green warden and the caretaker deserved the bes,t thanks of the club for their work. (Applause.) Mr. Jury, in acknowledging the compliment, said he appreciated the president's remarks. He thought the credit was due more to the other players than himself. He hoped the Fitzroy Club would lead many winners to the green. (Applause.) Supper was served by the ladies of the club.
