CRY IN THE NIGHT.
SETTLER'S WEIRD EXPERIENCE. Taumarunui, May 24. A well-known old settler, Michael jßurlce, formerly a boarding house keeper, | has been admitted to the hospital suffering from wounds to his throat. Burke i was staying alone on hiy farm at Otunui, and ajjout dusk on Wednesday a neighbor, Mr. Fred Carrington, was in his whare with his sister when they heard a noise like a. sheep coughing. Thesis.ter thought it was a man calling out. Carrington. went out, and, seeing nothing, returned to his whare. The noise was heard again. Carrington again went out with a, lantern. Ho found Burke on the bank of a creek, trying to call out. Burke was in a state of collapse, and was wearing only his shirt and trousers.'. He waa suffering from wounds in the throat. With the assistance of neighbors, Burke was brought in to Taumarunui hoepital on the following day. He is now progressing favorably towards recovery.
