The annual meeting of the committee of the Northern Referees' Association was held last night. Mr. 0. Hopkins was voted to tho chair. There were about 12 members present. The statement of finances showed a balance in hand of £l7 10s. The chairman referred to the grievance between the association and the Rugby Union 'n regard to the conduct of spectators towards the referees at football matches. He thought the union had made a mistake in not punishing the offender in the particular case which had caused the trouble. He asked whether members still declined to act in union matches, ,or whether they were prepared to let by-gones be by-gones. He thought the union should make it perfectly clear to the public that they could not come on to the grounds and say what they liked to referees. The member who was principally concerned m the trouble intimated that he was prepared to drop the matter, and the meeting decided to make a fresh start and let tho grievance be dropped. Petty; delegates to central executive, Messrs. J. H. Thompson and L. Humphries. Messrs. T. Wilson and C. Jackson (Stratford), L Whlttaker, J. Hoskin, P. Hooker, W. McUae (New Plymouth) were nominated as new members, subject to the usual conditions.
