PROTECTION OF RETURNED SOLDIERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. ChristehuTeh, Lavt Night. Representatives of the Chamber of Commerco interviewed Sir James Allen and asked that the Gazette regulation dated May 2, designed to protect soldiers from exploitation be made clear. The deputation stated that business people doubt whether tlio regulation applied to debts incurred hy soldiers after tliey became civilians again. If it did apply in that way it would operate Against the returned soldiers, because the business people, in order to protect themselves;, would insist on returned soldiers paying cash. The Minister said that the Government wished to protect returned soldiers, but not to injure their credit. He did not think the regulations would apply after Ihey became civilians, but he would ask the Attorney-General to have the meaning of the regulation made quite clear.
