DOMINION WINTER SHOW.

SCHOOLS SECTION. One of the very special features of the 1819 show will be the schools section, the schedule for which has beeu printed and sent to the schools throughout the district. It is wide in scope, and offers a field for all tastes in the pupils. For this lemon the committee, hope earnestly that all heads of schools will encourage their pupils to take an interest in the Bhow, and especially in the part which appeals to them most. There are a lot of prizes In each class and amongst theru are the handsome challongo shields presented by Messrs .lames and Oillman, Bennett and Sutton and W. A. Parkinson and Co, Ltd. These three shields are allotted respectively to the farm and garden section, writing and essays. A new feature in the garden section is the graphs of herd yields and manurial trial results, which should attract a lot of entries. "Writing is a most important subject, and for this classes are arranged for all standards. Another interesting class is lettering with pencil and pen, letters to bo up to two inches high. Drushwork and modelling i're two useful and interesting classes and for these are included thirteen classes. They should aIW-.v scope for originality and neatness in Iho older as well as tho tiny children. Sewing classes which are added this .tear, should attract the notice of tho girls. There are twelve ciasses, including face cloths, aprons, treasure bag, petticoats, bodice, frock and bloomers. The girls will have plenty of scope here. The essav competition has been widened this year, and P,ivc3 a chance for nil standards, the subjects comprising flower gardening, -our school, the life story of a penny, honesty, industry and for advanced pupils, after the war problems. For nil good prizes are given. As before the loy stouts have not been forgotten. In addition to an essay on boy 'corns' camp, there will bo a shooting competition open to any boy scout in the Tarannkl district. Particulars may be secured from the. schedule which will be posted on application to anyone Interested. It is hoped that the teachers throughout the district will realise that the Show Committee are anxious to foster an interest in education ind to encourage pupils to widen their knowledge and take an intelligent Interest in many things I outside their school life. When in Wellington last week Mr Hooker, secretary of the Winter Show, called at the Education Department with a view to seeing the . Minister in reference to the 1919 show, of tvhlch. the special feature will be the schools j section. He was unable to see the Minister ibut has received a letter stating that the Minister states he ha 3 much pleasure in extending I his patronage to the show at which he ia glad I to note, the work of tho schools is to be made ,a prominent feature. He adds that "If noth- : Ing unforeseen ( occurs he hopes lo be able to be present to perform the opening ceremony."
