HAWKER RESCUED.
BY PASSING VESSEL -MECHANICAL TROUBLES DEVELOP.: WHEN NEARDTG LANS, London, May 20. The coastguard at Lewis, the Outer Hebrides, reports that a Danish steamer picked up Hawker and Grieve.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. An Admiralty official message states that the steamer Mary transferred Hawker and Grieve to the destroyer Woolston, which is proceeding to Thurso. —Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. St. John's, May 24. Hawker carried a red Verey light to signal "All well" and ask his position London, May 24. The steamer Samnangar reported seeing an aeroplane's red Verey light in the same position aa the Faraday did. The flotilla of eight British destroyers has returned to Queenstown, relinquishing the search for Hawker, which extended for 300 miles eastward of the Irish coast. Hope is abandoned.—Aus. N.Z. MISHAP TO MACHINE, HAWKER GETS NEAR LAND. IN WATER 90 MINUTES; Received May 27, 12J5 a.m. London, May 25. An Admiralty official message dates that Hawker alighted owing to the stoppage of the circulation of water in the pipe between the radiator and pump. The exact position was 50.20 north and 29.30 west. Another report states that Hawker and Grieves; were in the water 90 minutes. The Daily Mail, has awarded Grieves £SOOO as a consolation prize. RESCUED MEN IN GOOD HEALTH. AUGHT CLOSE TO A STEAMER. Received May 26, 8 p.m. London, May 25. The Admiralty states that Hawker and Grieve are in. good health. They were picked up in latitude 5050 deg. N. and longitude 30 deg. W. after alighting close to the steamer Marie.—Reuter.
