(By "Hotmoa.")] Wanganui, Last Night,
Taranaki horses took a big hand in the settlement of events at Wanganui meeting on the second day, and incidentally paid the best dividends at the gathering. Rawakore led off by easily annexing the opening event, being followed home by a brace of New Plymouth horses, Silver Link and Movement. Polthogue gave a great display of jumping in the Grandstand Steeple and beat the first-class field very easily. I Hushm'an ran his best race to date, beatI ing Volo and the other good ones in the Empire Handicap. Scasprite made a big effort to complete Ms round of successes in the Farewell Handicap, but Astinome just proved too good. Silver Link and Demos carried tlie bulk of the investments in the Winter Oats, and with Inah were prominent to the tnrn, where Rawakore came fast and won easily from Silver Link, who just beat Movement. Inah was fourth.
TSayberry was a warm order in the Balgownie" Handicap, but cut u.p badly. Cello tried to win all the way, but weight told in the run home, and Marshal Neil just got the best of a hard finish.
Master Strowan and Coalition were voted too much class for their opponents in the Grandstand Steeples. Grafton Tot led for a mile, when Polthogue assumed command. Arlington and Master Strowan tried hard to overtake the lightweight over tho last half-mile, hut he held too many guns and won easily. Arlington fell at the last fence when lying second. Coalition and Grafton Tot l'ost°their riders and Styrax pulled up. Omahu carried most money in the Rata Hurdles. Bernice and Gang Awa' were early leaders, hut Rio rushed to the front five furlongs from home and scored easily. Lochella, when finishing fast in second place, fell at the last fence. Tluripos arid Zola were the only ones seriously supported in tho May "Hurdles, and when it came to racing there was nothing else in it. Whiro led to the six furlongs post, where Euripos took the (ead and won comfortably. ißewi Poto was entrusted with over two thousand tickets in the Empire Handicap, and Risingham and Arrowficld each carried over a thousand- Bushman led past the stand, hut along tho back gave way to Risingham, who appeared to have the race well in hand. Htisnnian came again in the straight, ana won nicely from Volo, who finished very fast. Rewi Roto was never prominent. Astinome carried most money m a big betting Tace in the Farewell Handicap, and quickly assumed the lead and won easily. Se'asprite came fast inthe straight and beat down Ruddy and Post Haste for second money.
