TARANAKI A. AND P. SOCIETY.

LADIES' COMMITTEE ENTERTAINED On Saturday afternoon the ladies' committee of the Taranaki A. and P. Society were entertained to afternoon tea at May and Arrowsmith ; s, in order that the general committee of the society might express to them their appreciation of the efforts made and the successful result of their catering for the recent autumn show. There were about 100 present. ■ In the absence of the president (Mr. J. S. Connett) through indisposition Mr- H. C. Sampson presided and in a few appropriate words expressed to the ladies the society's appreciation of their effort. He said the last show was the best ever hold in Taranaki, and for the display of dairy cattla was probably the best in New Zealand. The catering of the ladies had left nothing to be desired, and the judges, who had come from all parts of the country, had taken away a very high opinion of the work of the ladies, whose fame was now spreading all over the country. He hoped the ladies would stand by the committee until the society tras in a thoroughly sound financial position. (Applause.) Mr, H. Benton responded for the ladies, and said it was a pleasure to them to help the society in the way tliey had done, and they were very grateful for the expressions of appreciation of their effort. Mr. C. Fairbrother on behalf of the committee, extended a hearty welcome home to their bid secretary, Mr. A. Humphries. He also remarked that in travelling about Taranaki he heard many expressions of appreciation of the work of the ladies at the show, and assured them that in South Taranaki they were very, much er-ied. At his, call hearty cheer-) were given for the ladies' c.ommitiee. Mr. Humphries, in responding, thanked those present for the welcome to himself, and stated incidentally that the fame of the ladies of the Taranaki A. and P. ■Society had reached even the Old Lnnd. He hoped they would continue to help the soeietv along. Mr. Sampson then thanked those present, on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Connett, for their attendance, and mentioned that he had omitted to state that the profit made from the ladies' catering effort amounted to £l7O. (Applause.)
