STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)' (All communications, letters, etc,, left with Mr H. J. Jlopkius, bookseller, will receive prompt attention.) » The Mahoe ball was packed on Friday evening, when a mimber of returned soldiers were welcomed home at a banquet and social- The general arrangements did great credit to the large committee which had them in hand. Over 200 J people sat down at the tables, and to provide %• others a second sitting was necessary. Mr. T. 1!. Anderson presided. A mimber of toasts were honored, including "The King," "The Fallen," and '"Our Quests." In proposing the toast to the guests of the evening the chairman said they had been looking forward to the gathering for four years. While some men had returned in good health lie regretted that others had not yet been restored to their' normal condition. It was verv gratifying to see such a large gathering of the residents, which showed the feeling of the people of Mahoe towards t,)m returned men. It was their desire to give the boys the best possible welcome. An illuminated address was then presented to each of the returned men, whoso names are as follow: Sergt, 1). Jones, MM, Sergeant G. W. Scott, Gunner E. Scott, Trooper W. YVishart, Private Reg. Barleyman, Private Tim Kerrist, Trooper Herb. Kemp, and Private Clem. Relf. Three of the soldiers were not able to be preesnt. Acknowledgments were made on behalf of the recipients liy Sergeant Tones and Private Wishart. Musical and other items were rriven by Miss Coates, Sir. A, Beeslev, Mr. E. Parrott, and Mr- E. Barleyman. T)ance music was supplied by Mr. and Mrs. Beeslev (piano and comet). The extras were plaved bv several visitors. Mr 11. Melton discharged the duties of M.O. Tn the course of the evening the chairman suggested that the residents of Mahoe should consider the matter of erecting a monument io returned soldiers. He was sure that liberal subscriptions would bo given for such an object.
