SYDNEY UNIVERSITY TEAM. Sydney, May 23. The University Rugby Club hopes to send a team to New Zealand this season. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
Writes our Pungawhn correspondent: On Saturday Jast at Rugby football, the Rahotu team, which includes a few Pungarehu players, scored an early win against a team representing Okato, the game resulting in Rahotu scoring 23 points to their opponents' 3. The score, however, was hardly a fair indication of the merits of the contesting teams, and the honors were evenly contested by Okato throughout. Though the play was of a fast nature, it was not good lootball, there being far too much of the rash kicking and wild passing element. This was only to be expected, perhaps, at the beginning of the season, among players who were not. familiar with one another. Rahotu owed their victory to their better back play, though the combination was nothing to enthuse over. Some of the rearguard were particularly speedy. The forwards were evenly matched, and grafted hard throughout.
